| The Tomcat is a direct descendant of the historic convict disciplinary whips used in Australia when it began as a Penal Colony in the 19th century. It was used even earlier by the Royal Navy in the 18th century on sailing ships, made of rope with lead bits. But why make it from rope and poor leather, when Australia had abundant kangaroo, the finest leather known. So it morphed when it went Down Under. This "cat o' nine" whip is just incredible! The 16-plait braided singletail-style body is 19 inches long, with nine thin, fine braided cat-tails that are 19 inches long, including the terminal Turk knots and 4-inch fringe. Although there are imitation Tomcats out there, no one else's tails are as finely detailed, nor are the knots done so sleekly. This cat is shot-loaded, but not so heavily that you can't control it for accuracy, a common problem of heavier cats. Heavy weighting can also lead to premature wearing out and breakage.
